USPS Holidays : U.S Postal Service Holiday Schedule 2016

You should know about the USPS holidays, when U.S Postal Service doesn’t work. Although, it closes on Sundays but there are few days more in the whole year when it will be closed. You can check these days because if you go on the holiday you will have to return back with empty hands. However, United States Postal Service works when some companies and organizations are closed on some special days like Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Father’s Day, Easter Monday, Good Friday, Halloween, President’s Day etc.  You can read my article on USPS Hours to know the working hours & days and now let’s have a look on the USPS holiday hours.

January 1, New Year’s Day :- On this day almost every company or firm is closed because it is celebrated across the world. So you won’t be able to receive or send any mail on this day.

January 18, Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. :- USPS celebrates his birthday as an holiday on the third Monday of January every year but King was born on January 15. They celebrate his birthday on third Monday of January because of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

 February 15, Washington’s Birthday :- This holiday is because of the first president of United States, George Washington. He was born on 22 February, 1732 but the people of U.S celebrates his birthday on the third Monday of February. So that’s why in this year 2016, the holiday will be on 15 February.

May 30, Memorial Day :- It is also a federal holiday in United States and people celebrates this day to remember the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. It is observed on the last Monday of May every year. 

July 4, Independence Day :- This day is celebrated as the Independence Day of the United States. On this day in 1776, United States became a new nation and no longer a part of British Empire that’s why it is so special for all the people of United States. It is also regarded as one of the best day in the list of postal holidays

September 5, Labor Day :- This day is also considered as a federal holiday in U.S. It is celebrated on the first Monday of September every year. It is celebrated by all the people of United States. It honors the American Labor Movement and the contribution of the workers towards the Country.

October 10, Columbus Day :- On October 10, all the Americans celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s Discovery of the Americas on October 12, 1492 but people of United States celebrate this day on second Monday of October every year.

November 11, Veterans Day :- People of United States celebrates this day to honor the service of all U.S. military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces.

November 24, Thanksgiving Day :- It is celebrated in Canada and United States. In Canada, People celebrates this occasion on second Monday of October and in U.S it is celebrated on fourth Thursday of November.

December 26 Christmas Day :- Although, Christmas is on December 25 but for most of the federal workers it will be treated as a holiday on December 26.
