He had lost his USPS tracking receipt or number and wanted to know the methods to track his mail. What if you lost your USPS tracking number?

lost-tracking-idAs you all know that U.S Postal Service uses a tracking number to track its packages or items. The item goes through various scanning tests. It is tested about twelve times before it reaches its destination. There are only two places where the tracking number is available, first on the packages and second on the receipt. For some types of mail you don’t need to pay anything to USPS, but all mail are not equal, so you have to pay for the premium mail services. This premium mail service offers a detailed tracking information about your package.

If you lost your Priority Mail Express receipt then you should not worry because you will get the information about it’s tracking from your nearest post office or the post office from where you mailed Priority Mail Express item, and if you lost your USPS tracking receipt then USPS won’t be able to help you because it’s the only record of confirmation of delivery. United States Postal Service doesn’t keep the records of tracking ID or number. In that case, you can do only one thing, and that is you have to wait for some time depending upon the time your mail takes to reach its destination (like international packages take 28 business days) and after that ask the recipient whether he received the package or not. If yes, then it’s fine and if not then go to your local post office or the post office from where you mailed that package and ask them to put a track on that package. You will need to give some information like date, time and the address of the recipient. If you used a credit or debit card, then it will be easier to know the exact date and time.

If you do the work according to the suggestions given above, then there are more chances to locate your package, and if post office can’t find the package, then you can file a claim if that package was insured.

This is the answer to the question asked by that person. If you too are one of them who lost their tracking ID or receipt and want to ask that What can I do if I lost my tracking number for USPS? 1. I lost my tracking number and can not get my refund without it even though I had obtained an RMA number. What to do because they are very firm in requiring that tracking number even though there has been enough time that they have received the package.

  2. Same issue. The package with RMA # on it was returned and the company confirmed they received it but will not give me a refund without a tracking number. It’s over 2.5 months old so I do not have the tracking. They are denying my refund despite having my returned product.

I think it’s a sleazy way to do business and refuse to use eBay, Opt 7 or PayPal because of it. Honesty is punished for some reason.

Even my CC company won’t contest the charges without a tracking number. It’s truly unbelievable.
